Meet Judge Tonya Jones 

Judge Jones, a native Houstonian, grew up in South Park and is a proud graduate of Jesse H. Jones Senior High School. She went on to graduate from Baylor University and later obtained her law degree from Southern University Law Center. 

As Judge of County Court #15, Judge Jones presides over class A and B misdemeanors cases as well as appeals from municipal and justice of the peace courts. Judge Jones also serves as Local Administrative Judge for the County Courts at Law.  As LAJ she is responsible for addressing case management and backlog, among other duties, for the 20 County Courts at Law (both civil and criminal).  

In the community, Judge Jones offers summer internships and serves as a mentor.  When she is not serving in this capacity, Judge Jones partners with attorneys and other stakeholders within the justice system to provide information and resources to underserved communities. 

Judge Jones has remained committed to her goals of engagement, education, and empowerment from the community to the courtroom and is honored to seek another term as Judge of Harris County Criminal Court at Law #15. Her wealth of diverse experience and passion for public service gives her a unique and fresh perspective on the bench. Tonya is the oldest of five children. She attends Greater New Testament Baptist Church and is a proud member of the Xi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc.
